CityPlace Burlington
Sustainable Transportation

How will we move through the center of the new downtown Burlington?

CityPlace Burlington is perfectly positioned, literally, to lead the community in promoting sustainable transportation initiatives. We are located directly across from the award-winning, county-wide transportation hub of Green Mountain Transit. In addition, we are a flagship location of the new Greenride BikeShare program, and we are planning a car share program. Also we are providing ample parking based on occupancy and usage, as well as multiple state-of-the-art EV charging stations.

One of the founding principles of our development is the emerging paradigm of the mixed-use city center. It’s actually a very old concept which many developments and communities worldwide have revisited in recent years as revitalization of their downtown core has become essential to growth and progress. At its most basic: a central development within a city needs to ensure access to housing, goods and services in close proximity, and transportation needs to be simplified, traffic patterns studied and improved, with walkability encouraged for better health and preservation of the environment.

This “city center” concept is a multi-faceted design system with guidelines that address many of the challenging issues that arise when trying to ensure vitality and growth in our community, such as environmental responsibility, economic strength, business retention, maintaining property values, attracting and keeping residents and workers, and more. The goal of CityPlace Burlington is to create a viable, sustainable, self-contained ecosystem which supports development of neighborhoods, promotes the health and well-being of people through readily-available resources and encouraged interaction.

How are we doing this? With restoration of two city blocks that were taken away in the ill-conceived 1960s urban renewal practices, reconnecting long-divided neighborhoods; by including a robust mixture of business, retail, residential and parking, essentially the opposite of a resource-scarce, depletive mono-culture approach; with consideration, inclusion and facilitation of multiple transportation options—walking, bicycle, mass transit, car share, individual automobile; by promoting the latest and fastest growing automobile technology with multiple EV charging stations; and designing within the guidelines of Plan BTV’s “Great Streets” initiative. By taking these steps, and with all the features, services and amenities included in our design, we are ensuring that the needs of residents, businesses, retailers, employees, visitors and tourists are well-served by CityPlace Burlington.

Please note that total number, location, size and layout of available retail and residential spaces, including their features, amenities and services listed are subject to change based on regulations, cost, availability, demand, and other considerations which may affect final design and construction specifications.
