As you know, demolition has moved beyond the interior of the old Burlington Town Center and a large portion of the Bank Street section of the old BTC is now down. We are removing both levels of the old Burlington Town Center mall that stretches from St. Paul Street to Pine Street along Bank Street, and this work is almost completed. This demolition is being undertaken and completed with safety as our guiding criteria. We have protected traffic and pedestrians throughout this demolition work, and we will continue to do so. We will continue to facilitate two-way traffic on Bank Street and Cherry Street and will do so throughout the demolition and development process. All of our efforts are designed to keep the public and our construction workers safe and to alleviate traffic flow issues in the downtown area. Let us know if you see any problems. There is a phone number for you to call and that number is posted on our construction fencing.

As our demolition work progresses, we want you to know there will be no additional closures of sidewalks and no further impact to vehicular traffic around the City Place Burlington site.  Traffic will continue to be two way on both Bank Street and on Cherry Street.  As you also may have heard, Macy’s has closed the Burlington store along with 100 other Macy’s stores throughout the U.S. That was a sad day but the Macy’s site is a good site. This site has a potential for re-development that will be of immense added value to our community and eventually overshadow the closing of the store. Have faith, we do.

Once all demolition has been completed, we will then start our foundation work for the new CityPlace Burlington project. This entails excavating the entire site to make ready for our new parking area below grade and to construct the new foundation, which will include soil excavation and movement, support of excavation and the pouring of the new concrete footings for the new project. We will tell you more about this work in another article.

After the foundation work is completed, we will start to erect our steel framing – and yes, this is going to be a steel building with a beautifully designed pre-cast exterior wall panel system, (more to come on this aspect of the construction). This design, integrating an exterior wall panel system to a steel frame, enables a faster construction time and that means less inconveniences to the public.

So now you are up-to-date on our progress, but do keep an eye out for more information as CityPlace Burlington is on the go!! We will be developing new homes, new offices, new retail and a larger new garage as part of the CityPlace Burlington Phase 1 of development, all of which will be enormously beneficial to Burlington. You can stay informed on the progress right here at www.cityplaceburlington.com. Soon we will have a live camera feed on our site where you can see the daily progress, and watch time lapse videos of the construction. Also, we intend to erect a viewing stand at one of the corners to the project so that you can view our construction progress throughout the development period. Keep watching as there will be plenty for you to see.
