The new CityPlace Burlington has been planned to take into account the community’s interests, needs and desires, including what services CityPlace Burlington could offer the community. We will likely include 1) a preschool to educate and care for our children 2) new retailers that will provide everyday services to the community such as a drug store, a convenience store, and a primary care facility. We will also offer the community an observation deck atop our new office building where you can view the panoramic views that surround our site, as well as a 3000-square-foot community room for hosting community events and functions. CityPlace Burlington is a place where the community can live, work, eat, shop, play and learn. CityPlace Burlington will be about the community!

Here at CityPlace Burlington we love the holidays and the holidays are all about family and community. The holiday season is here. Thanksgiving is today and Christmas is in a month. We all have special memories of how the Holiday Spirit affected us. We’ve all had that moment when in spite of the hectic running around; shopping, preparing our home for guests, attending holiday functions and trying to wrap up another year, we feel the warmth and connectedness and dare I say, the love that our cherished holiday season brings out in everyone.

We take our community and our holidays seriously here at CityPlace Burlington, and we have planned a number of community events. We kick off this holiday season by welcoming Santa on Black Friday and providing you a safe and festive space to bring your children, to sit in Santa’s lap and ask Santa for their favorite gifts and toys. A magical moment that we all remember from our own childhoods. On Saturday, November 25th we proudly join the movement to Shop Small/Shop Local and promote Small Business Saturday by highlighting our local merchants and encouraging shoppers to shop local and support our mall’s local businesses – the lifeblood of any community.

This year we have created a special space we call “Winter Wonderland”, which is located at the Church Street entrance…a truly magical place! Please come by and visit. During the holidays we will have a diverse offering of local crafters and business owners selling their goods from kiosks set up within this “Winter Wonderland” space. We also have the Vermont Cares organization offering gift wrapping for your convenience. First Night Burlington will be here selling buttons for their New Year’s Eve extravaganza. Please stop by and encourage your fellow Vermonters to shop local! This is about community members supporting our community businesses.

We are also planning some special community events for the holidays! Passion for Paws will be here on Dec. 7th and 21st from 5:30 to 7:30 pm showcasing some of the wonderful dogs they have ready for adoption. These 2 nights will also be your opportunity to have your Pet Photo with Santa and please note that CityPlace Burlington will give away 30 full pet photo packages and 30 family photo packages to lucky community members who shop and visit CityPlace Burlington during this holiday time. Come early! The full package photos giveaway won’t last long!!

On Dec. 13th and 19th from 5-7 pm, VLAM Youth choir will be regaling you with Holiday and Christmas songs. On Saturday Dec. 9th and 16th from 2-3 pm please don’t miss the angelic voices of the North Avenue Alliance Church choir who will sing a variety of Christmas Carols. And on Sunday Dec. 10th and 17th join L.L.Bean for a clinic on winter fun and safety. These special events are for you to enjoy the holiday season with us.

As we do each year, CityPlace Burlington will again partner with Toys for Kids and have toy collection barrels distributed throughout CityPlace Burlington. As much as we would like to believe that the holidays are not about the gifts, we know that every child wakes up Christmas morning looking to see the gifts and toys left by Santa, so let’s work together and make sure every child in Burlington has a good Christmas this year. We have conveniently placed one of these collection barrels right inside the Church Street’s only toy store – Kidstructive Fun. Feel free to help fill it up. Join us in helping to make Christmas Day a great day for every child. Again, this is community members supporting other community members.

CityPlace Burlington hopes to make this time of year special for all community members, and one way is to help ensure in a small way that every family has a great Christmas! We help make that happen in a number of ways. CityPlace Burlington will be donating toys and games to various organizations in the community: COTS, Ronald McDonald House, UVM Medical Center’s pediatric ward, LUND Family Services, and others. In addition to the toys for the kids, CityPlace has agreed to honor a special request from Rob Meehan, executive director of the Chittenden County Emergency Food Shelf, and will make a matching pledge of $10,000 to support members of our community this Christmas. More details to follow from Rob Meehan.

Redeveloping this outdated Burlington Town Center mall is more than just concrete and new glass. This project will strengthen and serve our community in many ways. By undertaking this project, a $225 million investment in Downtown Burlington, we are stepping up and helping to meet the needs of the community.  This project will be integral part of our City and it will improve our City with new housing, including affordable and workforce housing, new jobs, more parking, new retail and new office space to help grow the economy of Burlington. CityPlace Burlington is a large project that will improve, revitalize and invigorate our community. The project, its ownership and this community are integrated and are working together to make Burlington better.
